Reduce your risk of developing cancer by:

  • Avoiding smoking. Quit if you do, and don’t start if you are tempted. Find out more about the ‘big smoke joke’.
  • Drinking if you want but don’t drink to get drunk. Binge drinking is hard on your immune system, it can quickly become a habit, and you’ll end up behaving like a muppet!
  • Eating a balanced diet and avoiding fatty foods. Try to eat five servings of fruit and vegetables daily. A banana releases its sugars more slowly than chocolate so you feel more energetic for longer.
  • Taking regular exercise. Maintain a healthy diet and weight. Aim for 1 hour of exercise a day.
  • Avoiding the midday sun. Sunburn not only hurts, but is one of the main causes of skin cancer. Learn about the sun’s harmful effects and how to protect yourself.

The most important thing to remember is that the earlier a cancer is diagnosed, the better. Go to the doctor if you notice any unexplained changes in your body. Don’t worry – most of these changes will be harmless.
