To boost the benefits of proper exercise, you should make sure you eat right, drink enough water to stay hydrated, and get lots of sleep. Together, all of these can help you feel your best both physically and mentally.

Exercise can help you to:

  • feel and look good
  • strengthen your muscles (including your heart) and increase flexibility
  • reduce your risk of developing certain diseases when you are older
  • maintain a healthy weight.

What counts as exercise? Walking, playing sports, dancing, doing push-ups, even stretching. What exercises do you like doing? Let us know about the fun and different ways you like to keep fit.

Everyday ways to get active

Getting exercise is easier than you might think. Adding a little extra activity to your everyday routine can make a big difference.

  • bike or walk to school, the library, or the shops
  • get the drivers in your home to park further away than you normally would and walk
  • walk around during breaks
  • take the stairs.

Did you know?

Exercising causes the body to produce endorphins, chemicals that make you feel peaceful and happy.

One hour a day of moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding or dancing will keep your heart and body in good health. And you don't have to do it all in one go. Try three or four shorter exercise sessions every day - can you work in a quick exercise session before you wash in the morning and another after school or homework? Every little bit counts! Try to include some activity for 10-15 minutes non-stop, as this really helps keep your heart healthy.
